Accountable Capitalism
We are living in a defining moment of the AI era, a moment when the future of work, democracy, and human dignity is being reshaped faster than our institutions can respond. Accountable Capitalism is the path toward an economy that serves people, not just profits. It is a vision of shared responsibility, fairness, and human flourishing. But none of this will happen unless we the people rise up and insist on a system that is accountable to us, We the People.
We the People Make the Following Demands:
Restore our economic system by making companies fully accountable for all the costs they create, including internal expenses and external harms such as creating weapons of mass destruction, pollution, or mass unemployment.
Ignite structural change in our institutions and oversight worthy of the AI era we live in. This includes getting money out of politics, preserving the right to vote, establishing an Economic Bill of Rights, and reshaping the Supreme Court.
Serve all people of this country by taxing AI and using the revenue to keep We the People safe and create human jobs. These jobs should strengthen communities and advance human flourishing.
Envision and boldly execute a future where healthcare, education, and housing, each essential to human flourishing, become a reality for everyone.
We Have Done This Before - Make It The People's Choice!
Accountable Capitalism will not emerge on its own. AI will not choose the future for us. Corporations will not choose it. Politicians will not choose it. Only we the people can.
There is already a clear bipartisan recognition that our economic system needs greater accountability. Recent legislative proposals show that leaders across the political spectrum are beginning to confront this challenge:
• Elizabeth Warren’s Accountable Capitalism Act (D‑MA)
• Bernie Sanders’s 21st Century Economic Bill of Rights (I‑VT)
• Josh Hawley and Richard Blumenthal’s AI Accountability and Personal Data Protection Act (R‑MO and D‑CT)
These efforts point in the right direction, but legislation alone will not transform our economy. None of this will happen unless we the people rise up, demand accountability, defend democracy, and insist on an economy where every person has the chance to flourish. We have done this before. We fought against child labor and dangerous work environments, and we fought for a minimum wage, Social Security, Medicare, clean air, and clean water. We now must fight in solidarity for the dignity of all humanity. The future is ours to build.
